Exclusive! Ash, Rajni in Peru, Brazil for their ROBO movie

Everyone's looking forward to Rajnikanth's new film, ROBO (Enthiran-tamil) with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Directed by ace filmmaker Shankar, the film promises to entertain.

I bring you exclusive pictures of the film, during its shooting at the historical Inca civilisational site of Machu Picchu in Peru. The film was also shot in Brazil.

The film -- earlier titled Robot -- was first offered to Shah Rukh Khan. After he opted out, Shankar's favourite actor Rajnikanth stepped in.

But then the next question arose: Who would be Rajni's heroine in the film?

Shriya Saran, Rajni's Sivaji co-star, was considered for the role. But it eventually went to the gorgeous Ash. She got 6 crores for this project. This is her first film with Rajni, and her second with Shankar, after Jeans.

This movie revolves around a robot that turns out to be a monster. It's up to Rajnikant to destroy the monster and save everyone else.

Rahman, Sukhwinder to perform at the Oscars

Guess who got the invitation to perform live at the Oscars this year? It's none other than our man of the moment A R Rahman.

Rahman along with Bollywood singer Sukhwinder Singh has been invited to open the 81st annual Academy Awards night, on February 21 in Los Angeles, with the Oscar nominated song Jai ho from the film Slumdog Millionaire. Danny Boyle's film Slumdog... that recently swept the Golden Globes and created a huge buzz at the prestigious SAG awards is a favourite for the Oscars as well.

Meanwhile, Rahman is working on the song to adapt it to the live orchestra for his stage performance. Famous Bollywood lyricist Gulzar, who has penned the lyrics of Jai ho is also expected to make an appearance at the gala award ceremony.

After winning India's first Golden Globe, A R Rahman once again created history when his compositions Jai ho along with O Saaya received nominations for the Best Original Song category this year at the Oscars. Rahman has also been nominated for giving the Best Original Score for Slumdog Millionaire.

Five Padma in Andhra Pradesh's tally

Andhra Pradesh has bagged five Padma awards, including a Padmabhushan and four Padmashris, for the year 2009.

For his contribution to the Telugu film industry spanning around five decades, actor G Sivarama Krishna Murthy alias Krishna was conferred the prestigious Padmabhushan.

Another cine artist and comedian Dr Kanneganti Brahmanandam was conferred the Padmashri in the field of art, while Dr Alampur Saibaba Goud, an ophthalmologist and chairman of a voluntary organisation Devnar Foundation, was given the award for his work in the field of medicine. Goriparthi Narasimha Raju Yadav and Begum Bilkees Idris Latif were given Padmashri awards for their extensive works in the fields of science and engineering and social work respectively.

Many in the film industry feel that Padma Bhushan for Superstar Krishna is long overdue though the superstar himself said he never hankered for awards. “It is immaterial whether I receive the award now or sometime ago as its value remains intact,” said an upbeat Krishna interacting with the media at his Padmalaya Studios.

He acted in over 300 films essaying a wide range of roles in mythological, folk, historic, social, James Bond to Cowboy films. “I am happy for being recoginised for my work. I think they have rewarded me with the award for my contribution to the cinema as an actor, director, producer, studio-owner, exhibitor and distributor. Padmalaya banner has nationwide recognition as we produced films in Tamil, Hindi and Bengali languages. Over 90 per cent of the films I directed succeeded at the box office,” he said. Now onwards the actor wants to be choosy. “I will act in films only that interest me and will not act under obligation,” he said.

Comedian Brahmanandam is over the moon on hearing the news. When contacted, he said: “I give the entire credit to the Almighty. It was T.Subbirami Reddy who had encouraged and helped me,” he recalled.

“With Padma Sri I have received awards at the State, national and international levels,” said the ace comedian.

Earlier he received Nandi awards from the State Government and won Guinness Book of World Records for having acted in a record number of over 700 films. Thespian and a Padma Bhushan awardee himself Akkineni Nageswara Rao congratulated the two artistes of the Telugu film world.

“Presenting Padma Sri to Brahmanandam is like giving the award to comedy. Brahmanandam has the knack of enriching any role. It is refreshing to see a Telugu comedian receiving a Padma award after a long gap after Relangi,” said an elated director EVV Satyanarayana and added: “Krishnagaru is a good human being. He deserves the award as he has grown up into an institution as an actor and studio owner.” One could see festive ambience on the sets of the film `Neramu-Siksha’, a Krishna starrer directed by his wife Vijaya Nirmala. “Be it success or failure Krishna takes with the same spirit.

Though Sri Sri got an award for the song `Telugu veera levara...’ from Krishna’s all-time superhit `Alluri Sitaramaraju, he never expected any award. I am happy as they have chosen the right person for the award,” she said.

Getting to be felicitated with the Padma Shri Honor, Akshay Kumar opened his heart saying, "It makes me speechless brimming with extreme joyfulness. This is something I never expected for my dedication and insatiable passion for acting. All the credit goes to my people who've made me great with their appreciations".

Adding on Akki said, "This moment would never fade away from my life time memories. I thank God who has showered his blessings on me".

The actor was constantly striking gold at the box office with his continuous hits from 'Hey Baby', 'Namaste London', 'Welcome', 'Bhool Bhulaiyya' and 'Singh is King'. Nevertheless, his successful journey turned into a bit of speculations with his recent release 'Chandni Chowk to China'.

Well, when it comes to an actor like Akshay Kumar, successes or failures doesn't matter. It's all about his passion for work rendered for entertaining the audiences.

Shah Rukh Khan as Mogambo?

Shekhar Kapur has been courting SRK for the role of the villainous Mogambo in Mr India 2. The role is to be expanded from that seen in the original Mr India and it is felt that SRK has the strength to carry off the part. SRK has yet to confirm. The movie will also see Anil Kapoor and Sridevi reuniting on screen, this time as an older couple with new stars in the more prominent roles.

SRK is not just a silver screen hero. He recently heard about two kids, Mudassar (5) and Amina (3) who were badly hurt in a grenade attack in Kashmir and immediately jumped in to offer to pay for their full rehabilitation. Dr Ali at the hospital confirms, “I came across the kids when I went to Srinagar. To treat the kids a big amount of money was required. When I talked to Shahrukh Khan about it, he came to the hospital and he also promised them he would meet them as soon as they were discharged form the hospital.”

SRK's appearance on Farhan Akhtar's Oye It's Friday was so dynamic and enjoyable that the producers decided to make two shows out of the material. In the show, SRK explained how he first met Gauri. He said he saw her dancing when he was eighteen but was too shy to ask her to dance himself so he asked his friend to ask her instead. But she said she couldn't as she was waiting for her boyfriend! In the event, it turned out she was teasing and she was waiting for her brother!! As a practical joke, SRK came onto the show wearing a sling and when Farhan asked him what the problem was, SRK said he'd hurt his hand shaking hands with Salman Khan!
